TUTORIAL CorelDRAW: Shape Tools

What is Shape Tool?

Shape tool is one of enormous tool and also very useful tools for designing image or manipulating your object. It is also the the tools that professional designer use.

What is Its function?

Based on the preview in CorelDraw, the function is to "Edit a curve object or text character by manipulating nodes."

It means that you can use this tool to transform the shape of your object into your desired shape by manipulating its nodes.

Generally, there are 7 function of Shape Tool
1. Add and Delete Nodes
2. Join and Break Nodes
3. Convert to Line and Convert to Curve
4. Reverse Direction/ Extend Curve to Close
5. Stretch or Scale Node/ Skew and Align
6. Reflect Nodes Horizontal and Vertical
7. Elastic Mode and Select all Nodes
8. Smooth, Symmetrical, and Cusp Nodes

How to do Use?

1. Add and Delete Nodes
This tools are used to add and remove the nodes in a line of object. Nodes allow the user to manipulating the shape of the object by dragging it to desired place in page. Add nodes is kind of tools that adding editable nodes in line segment of your object or image, While delete nodes allow user to remove any nodes that is selected by user and then reshape the curve of the object.

2. Join and Break Nodes
This tools are used to separate or join a line within an object. Join two nodes allow user to join the starting node and the end node of an open path to create a closed object, While Break Curve allow user to breaks a path in the open curve or in the closed curve object.

3. Convert to Line and Convert to Curve
This tools are used to convert a line into a curve or vice versa. Convert to Line allow user to convert the curve segment into a line, While Convert to Curve allow user to converts the line segment into a curve which can be reshaped by manipulating the control handles.

4. Reverse Direction/ Extend Curve to Close
This tools are used to positioning the nodes. Reverse Direction is used to reverse the position of the starting node and the end node. Extend Curve to Close is used to closes the curve by joining the starting node and the end node with a straight line.

5. Stretch or Scale Node/ Skew and Align
This tools are used to scaling and conditioning the curve nodes. Stretch or Scale Node is used to stretch or scale the segments of a curve objects. Skew Node is used to rotates segments of a curve object, While Align Nodes is used to aligns the nodes horizontally, vertically, or by control handles.

6. Reflect Nodes Horizontal and Vertical
This tools are used to editing corresponding nodes in object that have been mirrored horizontally or vertically.

7. Elastic Mode and Select all Nodes
Elastic Mode is used to shapes a curve as though stretching a rubber band, like when you try to stretch a rubber rope. While Select all Nodes is used to select all nodes in the object.

8. Smooth, Symmetrical, and Cusp Nodes
The Smooth tool is used to smooth the roundness of the curve by converting the node to smooth node. When you have sharp shape of your curve and want to transform it become round, use this tool. The Symmetrical tool is used to apply the same curve shape to both sides of node, While Cusp tool is used to create a sharp curve with sharp angle by converting the node to cusp node.
